And Then God Shows Up

By Rebekah Powledge

My eyes open and here we are again. It feels like “Groundhog Day”. We are in limbo. The dates keep getting pushed back. How is anyone supposed to get through this? This waiting period? We are doing our part by waiting. But what do we do with ourselves in the waiting?
Suddenly, we have all been placed in a space that is very uncomfortable. I heard someone say the other day… “I have never in my life found that I have so much time” and she looked with question in her eyes, at a loss as to what to do. Think about it, many of us have already cleaned out every drawer, played all the games, baked yummy desserts, watched all the movies, read every post, walked miles and miles outside, called every friend, and watched every news report. But then what?

Now we may find ourselves with a low level of anxiety floating above us. It feels like a heavy fog and we are unsure when it will be lifted. When will life return to normal? When can we go and celebrate all the things? “But God…” I know through the years; I’ve heard many pastors make a point to stop in the scriptures to further examine those two little words. God inserting himself, pausing our lives to enter the crazy. Pausing time for a moment and making a shift, a 180 in the circumstances. God showed up!

We are in a moment where I think God wants to show off. Not just globally, because He does but also personally. He is a personal God. He wants to come in with a hard stop on your life, give YOU a pause and tell you in the midst of all you may be going through, He Is Here. This is your “but God” moment”.
How are we supposed to get through this? How does anyone? But God! He is the only way. We must turn inward and upward to Him. He is The Way. He is our hiding place. He is there waiting. He is waiting for you to sit still and know Him.
Take a deep breath. Hear that? Feel that? That’s life He has given you. Use today to know your Creator. If today is just to “sit still and know He is God”, then that’s what today is all about. Watch for Him to work in your life. Pay attention for “God winks”.

LOOK UP ALL THE “BUT GOD” MOMENTS IN THE BIBLE. HERE’S A FEW OTHER VERSES FITTING FOR THE TIME:
“Be still and know that I am God” Ps. 46:10.
“You are my hiding place” Ps. 32:7.
“The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life” Job 33:4.
“You make known for me the path of life, in your presence is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore” Ps. 16:11.
What other verses are fitting for the moment? Run to Him, rest in Him today. And tomorrow morning when you wake up. Do it every day. We are given this moment of pause. Let us use it to know Him more.
